ANDZEJ GAVRISS

Director Andzej Gavriss’s creative vision has brought him success across the globe, but he hasn’t forgotten his Eastern European roots. Hailing from Latvia, he has directed award- winning films from the UK and US to Russia. He recently returned with an anti-homophobic awareness campaign ‘We will Become Better’ which courageously addresses LGBTQIA+ love in a country where it is all but forbidden. That comes fresh off the heels of directing a series of stunning shorts – and signing with Amsterdam’s HALAL – a production company and creative studio at the cutting edge of narrative. From hometown skate videos to drowning in the Philippines and homelessness in LA’s Skid Row, the subjects of Gavriss’s films have always had that edge. But what connects them is his incredible appetite for experimental filmmaking, combining beautifully crafted shots with hard-hitting storytelling – and finding the stories that matter. Gavriss’s many awards include a Grand Prize at CLIO, Gold for Direction at CLIO, Silver at Cannes Lions, Gold Screen at YDA 2020, and Wooden Pencil for Direction at D&AD – and have led to recent profiles in Creative Review and 1.4.
