about the jury
Michael Barker is an Editor and Partner at Outsider Editorial based in Toronto. He began his career very early on in front of the camera as a child model and background actor. His creative flair and keen eye for detail naturally led him from production into post where he quickly rose in the ranks, solidifying his spot as one of the brightest editors of his generation.
He has worked extensively on short and long-format content – both narrative and experimental. A few of the many brands he has work with over his career include Nike, Google, Ikea, Lexus, Moncler and Garmin.
His work has been awarded internationally at Cannes, CICLOPE, AICP, Webby’s, LIA, D&AD, and The Clios. Michael even received an Oscar shortlist for his work on the short documentary My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes, which not only secured the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary Short at SXSW but also earned acclaim in The New York Times’ Op-Docs showcase, swiftly ascending to become one of the publication’s most widely celebrated films to date.
